A Black kid is killed because of someone else’s prejudice and all the focus is then placed on whether or not his death is actually justifiable. It’s like clockwork, and this is even assuming the Black child gets any airtime or publicity in the first place, in which 95% of cases, they don’t. Then the family, in spite of their personal grief and suffering has to dish out all of their slain child’s personal details and legitimately quantify his humanity to garner any type of sympathy or mobilization. I’m so sick, from the pit of my soul sick of these children’s worthiness as human beings deserving of life and the assurance that they won’t be killed for no other reason than existing being put on trial. 

I don’t care if Trayvon smoked weed or if Darius was a failing student. These aren’t indicative of their right to life. I’m more concerned with making sure these won’t be details used against the family in the court of public opinion, because that tells me all I need to know of which how conditional America’s empathy extends for Black youth.
