Stay home and watch old movies.
Really? That’s what you get from that? Stay home and watch old movies? That’s the whole problem. You stay home and watch old movies, and wait for the movie studios to say “oh, people are buying lots of copies of Casablanca, we should totally remake it”.
Here’s the solution: go out and watch more movies. It doesn’t matter if you watch a sequel to something, but go and see Looper as well. Go see The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus. Total Recall and Gravity.
Except, of course, people won’t, because movies are expensive, and if you can only afford to see one movie you’re going to pick the one that has a track record, a connection to a movie you’ve already seen. Huh. Maybe it’s not that surprising that those are the ones that the studios make.
Also, I have very little time for an infographic that doesn’t know how many Harry Potter movies there were (8, not 9), and that has the balls to suggest that the Planet of the Apes franchise began in 2001 (you’re looking for 1968 there).
